Man Arrested After BB Gun and Knife Attack Sparks Helicopter Manhunt in Maidstone
A man has been arrested following a dramatic police operation in Maidstone involving a helicopter search after reports of a BB gun attack and knife threat.
Kent Police were called at approximately 8.40pm on Friday, 27 June, to the Boatyard in Tovil, where a man was allegedly shot with a BB gun and threatened with a knife. The victim required medical attention at the scene and was treated by paramedics.
Helicopter Spotted Over M20 and Lock Lane
Amid a fast-moving search for the suspect, a police helicopter was seen hovering over the M20 and Lock Lane areas of Maidstone, prompting alarm and speculation from residents on social media.
Shortly after, officers located and arrested a 46-year-old man at a property in Lock Lane. Police confirmed that the suspect is known to the victim and has been arrested on suspicion of assault.
He remains in custody while enquiries continue.
Police Appeal
A Kent Police spokesperson said:
“We were called at 8.40pm to a report of an assault involving a BB gun and a knife in the Tovil area. Officers, supported by a National Police Air Service helicopter, carried out a search of the area. A man was located and arrested in Lock Lane. He remains in custody.”
Community Reaction
Local residents reported hearing the helicopter overhead for more than half an hour and described a large emergency services presence near the river and surrounding roads.
No further injuries have been reported, and police have not yet confirmed whether any charges have been filed.
