A large industrial fire has broken out near Vange Park Road in Basildon, sending thick black smoke across the area and causing potential disruption for drivers along the A13 this afternoon.
The blaze began at an industrial yard reportedly used to store heavy-duty plastic drainage pipes, which are contributing to the intensity and volume of smoke.
Fire Crews on the Scene
Essex County Fire & Rescue Service confirmed that four fire engines have been deployed to tackle the incident.
In a public alert, the service stated: “The fire is producing lots of smoke, so if you are travelling nearby, please keep your windows closed.”
Impact on Local Roads and Rush Hour
The fire, located next to one of Basildon’s busiest routes, is expected to cause delays heading into the evening rush hour, especially around the A13 and Five Bells Roundabout. Drivers are being warned to expect slow-moving traffic and are advised to find alternative routes if possible.
There are currently no reports of injuries, and the cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
Public Safety Advisory
Residents and commuters in the surrounding areas, particularly Vange, are urged to stay indoors and keep windows and doors shut to avoid inhaling potentially harmful smoke particles.
The situation is ongoing, and firefighters are expected to remain at the scene throughout the afternoon and evening to bring the fire under control.
