Major Disruption at London Waterloo: ‘Do Not Travel’ Warning Issued by South Western Railway
A “Do Not Travel” warning has been issued by South Western Railway (SWR) for services running to and from London Waterloo station following a major signal failure early this morning.
According to National Rail, the technical failure began at around 7am and has caused significant delays and cancellations across the SWR network. Passengers are being told not to attempt travel from Waterloo until further notice.
Severe Delays and Cancellations
Trains in and out of London Waterloo are being delayed by up to 60 minutes, with many services cancelled or subject to last-minute platform changes.
Major disruption is expected until the end of the day, Monday 21 July, as engineers continue emergency repairs.
Alternative Travel Options
To help mitigate the chaos, passengers may use their valid tickets today on alternative transport at no extra cost. These include:
London Buses:
- Between Waterloo, Clapham Junction, Wimbledon, Surbiton, Kingston, Hampton Court, Weybridge, Epsom, and Shepperton
Falcon Buses 28:
- Guildford to Woking via Worplesdon and Brookwood
Stagecoach South 34 & 35: - Guildford to Woking
- Between Wimbledon, Richmond, and Waterloo
- Between Paddington, Victoria, and Waterloo
CrossCountry:
- Between Reading and Bournemouth
Southern Services:
- Portsmouth Harbour ↔ London Victoria
- Southampton Central ↔ Havant
- Dorking ↔ London Victoria
Great Western Railway:
- Guildford ↔ Reading
- London Paddington ↔ Exeter St Davids
- Basingstoke ↔ Reading
- Salisbury ↔ Westbury
- Weymouth ↔ Westbury
Passenger Support
SWR has confirmed that any unused tickets for today will remain valid for travel tomorrow, Tuesday 22 July.
A spokesperson for South Western Railway said:
“We apologise for the disruption and strongly advise customers to delay travel or use alternative routes while we work closely with Network Rail to restore normal service.”
