A serious road traffic collision has led to the closure of the A27 westbound in West Sussex, causing significant disruption for motorists in the area.
The incident, which involved two cars, occurred between the A280 junction in Patching and the A284 junction near Arundel. The collision has resulted in a substantial debris field across the carriageway, necessitating the closure of the road.
Emergency services, including Sussex Police, are currently at the scene, and National Highways contractors have been summoned to assist with traffic management and clear-up efforts.
Motorists are advised to expect delays and plan alternative routes if possible. A diversion route has been put in place, with diverted traffic instructed to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbol. Drivers are encouraged to exit the A27 at the Clapham intersection onto the westbound A280, continue towards the A259, and then turn west onto the A259 until reaching the junction with the A284. From there, traffic can enter the A284 northbound and rejoin the A27 at Crossbush.
For those whose planned routes are affected by the closure, it is recommended to allow extra journey time and consider re-routing or delaying travel plans.
Further updates and information are available from National Highways via their website, www.trafficengland.com, and travel apps, as well as through their regional feeds. Additionally, their 24/7 contact centre team can provide up-to-the-minute information at 0300 123 5000.
Motorists are urged to exercise caution and patience while emergency services work to clear the scene and restore normal traffic flow on the A27.
