M25 Closure: Alternative Routes as 4 Diversions in Place and How to Avoid ULEZ Charge
M25 Closure: Alternative Routes as 4 Diversions in Place and How to Avoid ULEZ Charge

A section of the M25 is set to close again this weekend as part of ongoing works to increase safety and reduce pollution. The closure, scheduled from May 10 to 13, will affect the stretch between Junctions 9 (for Leatherhead) and 10 (for the A3) in Surrey. This closure follows a similar shutdown in March and precedes further closures planned for August and later in the year.

With the closures come diversions, and here are the alternative routes for motorists:

  1. Clockwise Diversion: Traffic exits the M25 clockwise at Junction 8 and follows the A217 before turning onto the A240. From there, drivers join the A24 at the Esso roundabout and continue until reaching the A3 at Tolworth. The route then directs back to re-enter the M25 at Wisley, Junction 10.
    • For Over-Height Vehicles: Over-height vehicles should leave the M25 at Junction 9 (A243 Leatherhead) and follow the A243 before turning left onto the A309. From there, it’s a short distance to the A307 Esher and then onto the A245. Finally, drivers join the A3 and re-enter the M25 at Junction 10.
  2. Anticlockwise Diversion: For most vehicles, leave the M25 at Junction 10 and join the A3, then continue onto the A240 before turning left onto the A240 at the Esso roundabout. Continue until reaching the A217 and then rejoin the M25 at Junction 8.
    • For Over-Height Vehicles: Over-height vehicles should leave at Junction 10, join the A3, and continue along before turning onto the A245. From there, proceed onto the A307 to the A309 and then onto the A243. Finally, rejoin the M25 at Junction 9.

These diversion routes aim to minimize disruption and keep traffic flowing smoothly while the closure is in effect.

Additionally, drivers are reminded of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) charge, which applies to certain vehicles entering designated areas in London. By following the signed diversions, drivers can avoid incurring the £12.50 ULEZ charge. Deviating from the designated routes may result in the charge being applied.

Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and follow the signed diversion routes to ensure a smooth and hassle-free travel experience.
