Lucky Escape on A5: Driver Walks Away from Serious Crash with Only a Scratch

A driver has had a miraculous escape following a serious two-vehicle collision on the A5 in South Staffordshire this morning.

Emergency services, including paramedics and police, were called to the scene after a vehicle collided with a stationary HGV. Remarkably, the motorist involved walked away with only a scratch, prompting first responders to call it a stroke of luck.

Collision on A5 Sparks Road Safety Reminder

The incident occurred during the morning rush hour, causing temporary disruption on the busy stretch of the A5 dual carriageway. Police have confirmed that no other injuries were reported.

A spokesperson from the scene said:

“The driver was extremely lucky. Despite the severity of the impact, they escaped with just a scratch. It’s definitely one of those ‘time to put the lottery numbers on’ moments.”

Investigation and Road Conditions

Initial investigations suggest the driver failed to spot the stationary heavy goods vehicle in time. Weather and lighting conditions at the time were said to be clear, and there are no reports of mechanical failure or intoxication.

Officers have reminded drivers to remain vigilant and maintain full awareness, especially around stationary or slow-moving vehicles.

Road Cleared and Traffic Resumed

The scene was cleared within hours, and traffic has since returned to normal. Police have not announced any charges, but enquiries into the full circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
