Lucky Escape After E-Scooter Fire Breaks Out in Wokingham Home
A family in Wokingham had a lucky escape after a fire involving an e-scooter broke out inside a residential property late on Wednesday night.
Emergency services were called to Bedfordshire Way, Wokingham, at 10:20pm on 23 July following reports of a fire on the first floor of a home.
Firefighting Response
Crews from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS), including teams from Wokingham, Wokingham Road, Bracknell, and Whitley Wood fire stations, were dispatched to the scene. They were joined by an Aerial Ladder Platform unit and two supervising officers.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a blaze involving an electric scooter, which had ignited within the property. Crews wearing breathing apparatus tackled the flames using two hose reel jets.
The fire was brought under control within hours, with teams remaining on site for approximately three hours and 37 minutes.
Property Reinspection
A crew from Wokingham Fire Station returned to the address later for a routine reinspection, ensuring the property was safe and that there was no risk of reignition.

There were no reported injuries, and all occupants are understood to have evacuated safely.
Fire Safety Warning
While the exact cause is under investigation, the incident is a stark reminder of the fire risk posed by charging or storing e-scooters indoors.

RBFRS has previously warned that lithium-ion batteries used in personal mobility devices can overheat and catch fire if damaged or improperly charged.
