Lorry Driver Airlifted After Overturning on M2 Near Rochester

A lorry driver has been airlifted to a London hospital after his HGV overturned on the M2 coastbound carriageway between Junction 2 (Rochester) and Junction 3 (Chatham) around 12.35pm today.

Emergency services rushed to the scene following reports that the lorry had left the carriageway and overturned.

Multi-Agency Emergency Response

Three fire engines were deployed by Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS), and crews used specialist cutting and lifting equipment to free the trapped driver from the wreckage. He was found with injuries to his shoulder, chest, and leg.

He was stabilised at the scene by South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) paramedics and later airlifted by the Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) to King’s College Hospital in London.

The man’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, police confirmed.

Travel Disruption Ongoing

Two lanes on the eastbound M2 remain closed as recovery efforts continue, with National Highways expecting normal traffic flow to resume by 8pm this evening.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and check live traffic updates to plan their journey.

Investigation Underway

Kent Police remain at the scene and have launched an investigation into the cause of the incident. Early indications suggest the lorry may have veered off the road for reasons yet to be established.
