Liverpool Police Appeal for Assistance in Sexual Assault Cases, Seek Good Samaritan

Detectives in Liverpool have released new CCTV images and are urgently appealing for a Good Samaritan to come forward in connection with two reports of sexual assault in the city.

The first incident occurred on Wednesday, December 20, at approximately 18:30 on Crosfield Road in Edge Hill. In this case, a suspect sexually assaulted a woman in her 60s, causing her to fall to the ground. Fortunately, a passing car stopped, prompting the suspect to flee the scene. While the victim did not sustain physical injuries, she was left deeply shaken by the ordeal.

The second incident took place on Thursday, December 28, at around 19:00 near the Liverpool Tennis Centre, off Picton Road in Wavertree. During this incident, a woman in her 40s, who was walking her dog, was forcibly pushed to the ground and sexually assaulted by an unknown man. The brave victim resisted, and the assailant quickly fled towards Mystery Park, later being spotted on Westdale Road.

As part of their investigation, detectives have collected extensive CCTV footage and witness statements. They have now obtained clearer CCTV images of a man who they believe may possess valuable information related to these incidents. Additionally, new details have emerged about a Good Samaritan who came to the aid of one of the victims.

Detective Inspector Rob Pritchard assured the public that such incidents are rare but stressed the gravity with which they are being treated by law enforcement. Both victims have understandably experienced significant distress, and authorities are resolute in their determination to bring the perpetrator to justice.

Police are appealing to a man who was wearing an orange high-visibility jacket and witnessed part of the incident on December 20 to come forward. This individual, driving a dark estate car, intervened when he saw the assault, disrupting the suspect and giving chase. The suspect was briefly detained on nearby Durning Road before fleeing on foot.

Detective Inspector Pritchard urged the man depicted in the CCTV images, or anyone who recognizes him, to come forward, as they may possess vital information. Police are also keen to speak with the Good Samaritan who intervened during the first incident, potentially preventing further harm to the victim. Authorities are encouraging the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity.

Anyone with information or who believes they can assist the investigation, including providing CCTV or dash-cam footage, is urged to contact Merseyside Police via their Twitter or Facebook accounts or by calling 101, quoting the incident reference number 23001331388. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111. In case of an ongoing crime or immediate threat, please dial 999.
