A man has been arrested following a crash between a car and a bus on Lewisham High Street this morning that left two men and a dog injured.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 9.30am on Thursday (April 24) following reports of a collision involving a Ford Fiesta and a London bus.
The driver of the Ford Fiesta, a 39-year-old man, and the bus driver were both taken to hospital for treatment. Their injuries were described as non-life-threatening, and both have since been discharged.
A dog, believed to belong to the Ford driver, suffered an eye injury in the crash and was taken to a veterinary clinic for care.
The Ford Fiesta driver was arrested at the scene and later bailed as investigations continue. Police have not yet disclosed the nature of the charges being considered.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed:
“At 09.22hours on Thursday, 24 April, police were called to a collision in Lewisham High Street, SE13, between a Ford Fiesta and a bus.
London Ambulance Service attended.
The driver of the Ford Fiesta, a 39-year-old man, was taken to hospital as a precaution and discharged.
A dog, believed to belong to the man, reportedly suffered an eye injury and was taken to a vet for treatment.
The driver of the bus was also treated at hospital and has since been discharged.
Road closures were in place while emergency services responded, but have since reopened.
Enquiries into the circumstances continue.”
Lewisham High Street was temporarily closed between the junctions of Station Road and the town centre, causing delays during the morning commute. The road has since reopened, and traffic is now flowing as normal.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Lewisham Police said:
“This morning part of Lewisham High Street towards Station Road was blocked due to emergency services attending an incident.
This road is now back open and traffic flowing normally. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
