Leicester Man Sentenced to Over Six Years for Sexual Assault

A 39-year-old Leicester man, Lee Young of Sharpley Drive, Beaumont Leys, has been sentenced to six years and eight months in prison after being found guilty of sexual assault. Young was convicted of one count of assault by penetration following a trial at Leicester Crown Court.

The incident occurred in the early hours of November 16, 2019, when Young entered the home of his victim, who was known to him, while she slept on the sofa. Upon waking, the victim found Young kissing her and pressuring his advances. Despite her attempts to push him away, Young became aggressive, throwing items around the living room before sexually assaulting her.

During the attack, the victim managed to discreetly contact emergency services by using her iPhone’s emergency SOS feature, which automatically calls 999 when the side button is pressed five times.

Police later arrested Young hiding in a nearby front garden. He remained silent during police questioning.

On September 24, 2024, Young was found guilty, and on September 27, he received his sentence. In addition to the prison term, Young has been placed on the sex offender register for life.

Detective Constable Rachael Lee, the investigating officer, commended the victim’s bravery, stating, “This was undoubtedly a harrowing ordeal for the victim which she had to relive in front of a jury. She has shown a tremendous amount of bravery and courage throughout the investigation and trial.

DC Lee added, “I hope the fact he’s now serving a prison sentence for his crimes brings her a sense that justice has finally been done and allows her to move on with her life.
