As New Year’s Eve celebrations are in full swing, revellers in London need to plan their journeys home. Many will rely on the city’s public transport system, including trains, to get back after ringing in the new year. However, it’s essential to be aware of the last train times to avoid being stranded. Here’s a roundup of the last trains departing from London on various operators and routes:

Avanti West Coast: Avanti West Coast’s services, which run from Euston to destinations like the West Midlands, North Wales, North West England, and Scotland, will conclude before 6 pm. The last train departs at 5:52 pm, and service resumes on January 1 at 6:42 am.

c2c: For those travelling from London Fenchurch Street, c2c is running its regular Sunday service. The last train to Shoeburyness is at 12:11 am.

Chiltern Railways: Chiltern Railways is operating a normal Sunday service, but there may be cancellations due to staff shortages. Additional late-night trains are available from Marylebone, with the last train departing at 2 am to Aylesbury via High Wycombe.

Greater Anglia: Greater Anglia’s services will end earlier than usual on New Year’s Eve, with rail replacement buses operating on several lines. The last train departs at 12:44 am to Southend Victoria from London Liverpool Street.

Great Western Railway: Great Western Railway operates from Paddington, and the last train is scheduled for 1:34 am to Reading.

LNER (London North Eastern Railway): LNER is running its standard Sunday service, with the last train leaving King’s Cross for Leeds at 10:35 pm.

London Northwestern: After New Year’s Eve, a train is scheduled for 1:39 am from London Euston to Milton Keynes Central, making stops at nine stations.

Southeastern: Southeastern operates trains from Cannon Street, Blackfriars, and Charing Cross to Kent and parts of East Sussex. The last trains are as follows: Cannon Street to Gillingham at 1:40 am, Blackfriars to Orpington at 12:30 am (with additional trains running from Elephant and Castle to Orpington from 1 am to 3 am), and Charing Cross to Sevenoaks at 2:40 am.

South Western Railway: South Western Railway departs from Waterloo and is running extra New Year’s services. The last train is at 4:45 am to Guildford via Woking.

Southern: Southern operates on a Sunday timetable, with the last train departing at 12:09 am from Victoria to Gatwick.

Thameslink: Thameslink will not provide overnight service, and their website states, “You will not be able to travel with Thameslink after the New Year’s Eve celebrations, so please ensure that you have made alternative plans.
