Kent Police to Host Free Community Event for Women in Ashford

A community event aimed at empowering women in Ashford is set to take place next month. Organised by Kent Police Community Liaison Officer Catherine Stevens, the event, called “Women Together”, will be held at The Spearpoint Pavilion, Kennington, on Friday, December 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A Platform for Empowerment

This marks the third “Women Together” event organised by Catherine Stevens, following a successful session last month in Willesborough, which saw around 40 women participate. The initiative focuses on providing women with practical tools, advice, and resources to enhance their personal safety and wellbeing.

The event will feature:

  • Talks by community leaders, including councillors and Radio Ashford DJ Sam Griffin.
  • Information from Kent Police on their efforts to combat violence against women and girls.
  • Workshops, including a self-defence class led by a seventh Dan Grand Master of Taekwondo, and a Bollywood dance class for fun and fitness.
  • Charity and organisational representatives offering wellbeing advice and outlining local support services.

Key Speakers

The event will be officially opened by the Mayor of Ashford, Lyn Suddards, with discussions led by councillors and other community figures throughout the morning.

A Growing Initiative

Catherine Stevens expressed her excitement about the growing impact of these events, saying:

“Women Together has become a vital platform for bringing women in our community together, providing them with the resources and confidence to feel safer and more supported.”
