Katie Price has disclosed the staggering cost of car insurance she now faces due to her extensive driving record, which includes six driving bans and multiple offences over the years.
The former glamour model revealed during an appearance on the Disruptors podcast that insurance companies have quoted her an upfront payment of £150,000, followed by monthly premiums of £8,000 to insure a vehicle.
A History of Driving Offences
Price, 46, was banned from driving for two years after a 2021 crash involving her BMW in West Sussex, where she admitted to drink driving while disqualified and without insurance. Her driving record includes five previous bans and convictions for offences ranging from speeding to failing to provide driver information.
The most recent incident occurred in August 2023, where Price was fined £880 for driving a Range Rover without insurance or a valid license on the A14 in Kettering, Northamptonshire.
Insurance Woes and Car Rentals
Price admitted that her driving history has made her virtually uninsurable, but she has found an alternative in car rentals. During the podcast, she recounted her excitement when a rental service allowed her to drive a luxury Nissan Jeep:
“I went to Enterprise and said I want the biggest Jeep, the nicest car that you’ve got. They were happy to rent it to me even though I thought my record might scare them off.
11 Offences in 15 Years
Price’s driving history is one of repeated infractions:
- 2003: Escaped a speeding charge due to procedural errors.
- 2009-2010: Banned for speeding and improper control of a vehicle.
- 2018-2021: Multiple bans, including a two-year disqualification for drink driving.
Despite these incidents, Price managed to return to driving periodically, only to face further penalties.
Mounting Legal Consequences
Magistrates in her latest court appearance emphasized Price’s repeated disregard for driving laws. Her history includes 11 offences over the past 15 years, and she continues to accumulate penalties.
Price’s revelation has reignited public criticism over her apparent ability to repeatedly return to the roads despite her driving bans. Critics have questioned the leniency of penalties for serial offenders like her.
A Glimmer of Hope?
While Price remains optimistic about her ability to drive legally again, her track record paints a picture of escalating costs and limited options. Whether this marks a turning point for the former TV personality remains to be seen.
For now, Katie Price remains a controversial figure on British roads, with her struggles for legal compliance making headlines once more.
