Spanish Police Hunting for Missing Jay Slater Announce Discovery of Scottish Hiker

Specialist search dogs have been drafted in from Madrid to assist in the hunt for British teenager Jay Slater, who has been missing on the Spanish island of Tenerife since the morning of Monday 17 June.

Jay Slater, 19, from Oswaldtwistle near Blackburn in Lancashire, was on holiday with friends when he was last heard from at around 8:30 am on June 17. He called his friend Lucy Law to say he was setting off to walk back to his accommodation after missing a bus.

The walk from Mr. Slater’s last known location in Rural de Teno Park involves traversing the mountainous area around the village of Masca, in the north of the island.

A statement from Tenerife police said: “The Civil Guard continues with the search device for the young British man who disappeared in the Masca neighbourhood, belonging to the municipality of Buenavista del Norte (Tenerife), in which different units of the Civil Guard participate.

In addition, today several Canine Guides of the Civil Guard dispatched from Madrid with their canine agents specialized in the search for people on large areas of land, belonging to the Cynological Service of the Civil Guard.

Last night, his family shared a blurry image of what they believe could be the missing teenager captured on CCTV in a nearby town 10 hours after he was first reported missing.

The search efforts continue as authorities and family members hold out hope for Jay’s safe return. Anyone with information about Jay Slater’s whereabouts is urged to contact the local authorities.
