A major scare hit Ingol, Preston today after police discovered dangerous homemade fireworks during a raid. Residents and a nearby nursery were forced to evacuate while explosive experts dealt with the threat.
Police Raid Uncovers Explosives
Just after 2pm, officers executed a pre-planned warrant on Cottam Avenue. Inside the property, they found alarming items, including potentially explosive materials. Lancashire Police quickly set up a cordon and evacuated neighbouring homes as a safety precaution.
Experts from the Explosives Ordnance Department (EOD) were called in. They confirmed the devices were improvised homemade fireworks, far more powerful than those used in organised displays. Thankfully, the team made the devices safe and removed them from the scene.
Community Praised for Patience and Support
“People’s safety was the utmost priority. That’s why residents near the address were asked to leave their homes,” said Chief Superintendent Chris Hardy. “The devices found were potentially very dangerous. We are grateful for the support of the EOD, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, North West Ambulance Service, and Preston City Council.”
The cordon has now been lifted, and evacuees have returned home. However, a police presence remains overnight to ensure ongoing safety.
Arrest Made Over Explosives
An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Explosives Act. He remains in police custody as inquiries continue.
This explosive incident sent shockwaves through the quiet Ingol community but thanks to swift police action and expert handling, disaster was averted.
