The Imperial War Museum in London has been evacuated this afternoon following the discovery of a suspicious package on the premises, authorities have confirmed.
Visitors and staff were swiftly evacuated from the historic museum as a precaution, and a large police presence was seen surrounding the site shortly after the alert was raised.

The incident is currently being handled by Metropolitan Police, who have cordoned off the area and called in specialist officers, including the bomb disposal unit, to investigate the contents of the package.

A Met Police source said:
“Police were called to the Imperial War Museum in Lambeth following reports of a suspicious package. The building has been evacuated as a precaution while specialist officers assess the item.”
There have been no reports of injuries, and authorities say the evacuation was carried out calmly and efficiently. Roads around the museum, including parts of Lambeth Road, have been temporarily closed, causing some local traffic disruption.
Members of the public are being advised to avoid the area while emergency services remain on scene.
At this stage, the contents of the package remain unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
