A police investigation is underway after human remains were discovered in a garden near a children’s playground in Lewisham.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police were called to Church Grove, SE13, at 2.08pm on Saturday, April 12, following reports that remains had been unearthed at the site.
The discovery was made just steps away from a local playground, sparking concern in the surrounding community. A crime scene remains in place as detectives work to identify the remains and establish how they came to be buried there.
In a statement, a Met Police spokesperson said:
“On Saturday, 12 April police were called at 2.08pm to Church Grove, SE13, following reports that human remains had been unearthed in a garden.
There have been no arrests at this stage and officers are working to establish an identity, although the remains are thought to be non-recent.”
Forensic officers and detectives continue to examine the area, and further updates are expected as enquiries progress.
Local residents have been advised that there is no immediate risk to the public, but anyone with information is urged to contact police via 101.
The investigation remains ongoing.
