MAJOR BLAZE Huge Plumes of Smoke as Fruit Box Fire Erupts Near Rainham

Residents across Medway and beyond have reported seeing huge plumes of smoke in the sky after a fire broke out near Meresborough Road, Rainham, this evening.

Fire Crews at the Scene

Multiple fire crews rushed to the scene after a large pile of fruit boxes caught alight in a field. Eyewitnesses said flames spread quickly, with thick black smoke visible as far away as Sheppey.


One shocked  resident said:

“The smoke looked massive from my window – it seemed to cover half the sky. We could even smell it indoors.”

Roads and Local Impact

It is understood that Meresborough Road remains busy with emergency vehicles as crews continue to bring the fire under control. Local residents are being advised to avoid the area and keep doors and windows closed due to the smoke.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is currently tackling a large fire involving fruit boxes at a farm on Meresborough Road, Rainham.

Six fire engines and a bulk water carrier are at the scene, with crews working hard to contain the flames.

Residents and businesses in the area are advised to:

  • Keep windows and doors closed due to heavy smoke.

  • Avoid the area to allow emergency services safe access.

  • Share this message with friends and family who may not have internet access.

Kent Police are also supporting at the scene.
