Two Year 9 Pupils from Same Hampshire School Die in Separate Tragedies on Same Day
Two Year 9 pupils from Horndean Technology College (HTC) in Hampshire have died in separate, unrelated incidents that occurred on the same day, the school confirmed in a statement.
The devastating news was shared by the college via Facebook on Sunday evening, revealing that both students passed away on Monday, July 7.
The school said neither death occurred on school grounds and that the incidents are not connected. Specific circumstances surrounding the tragedies have not been disclosed.
“We are sad to share with you that two of our Year 9 students passed away on Monday 7 July, in unrelated incidents outside of College,” the statement read.
“Both students were valued members of HTC, and we will all miss them greatly.”
School and Community in Mourning
In response to the dual tragedy, HTC has implemented support measures for students, staff, and the wider school community. The school is offering guidance for parents on how to support their children and has opened its doors to floral tributes.
The message continued:
“We understand that families will want to support their children through this extremely difficult time and below we have provided some links to useful resources to help in conversations.”
“In due course, we will be considering how best to remember and celebrate both students’ lives in College.”
Local Churches Open for Reflection
In a show of community solidarity, local churches have opened their doors for those affected.
The Revd Richard Hutchins, Vicar of the United Benefice of Catherington and Clanfield, has arranged tealights and a prayer tree for visitors wishing to reflect or pay tribute.
Holy Trinity Church in Blendworth will also remain open for the next few days, offering space for quiet reflection and remembrance.
Tributes and Condolences
The college added it is accepting flowers and other gestures of condolence at its main reception throughout the week.
Hampshire Police have not yet issued a public statement regarding the deaths, and The Metro has contacted the force for further comment.
Support Resources
Parents and students are encouraged to seek support via the school’s recommended wellbeing services. National organisations such as Childline (0800 1111), Samaritans (116 123), and Kooth also remain available for emotional support.
