60-Year-Old Faces Serious Charges at Basildon Crown Court
Peter Faires, 60, from Staverton Road, Hornchurch, has appeared in court accused of suffocating a woman in Basildon.
Speaking via video link from Chelmsford Prison, Faires denied seven charges against him, including a campaign of abuse and intentional suffocation.
Allegations of Abuse and Control
The first charge claims Faires carried out coercive and controlling behaviour over three months. Prosecutors say he subjected the woman to:
- Monitoring and interfering with her phone
- Berating her repeatedly
- Isolating her from friends and family
He pleaded not guilty to this and six other charges, which include two counts of assault by beating, three counts of damaging property, and one count of intentional suffocation.
Trial Scheduled for February 2026
Basildon Crown Court has listed the trial for late February 2026.
