Hopes for the survival of a baby whose mother was stabbed to death in south London were fading today. The baby boy — named by relatives as Riley — remained in the hospital clinging to life this morning after his 26-year-old mother, Kelly Mary Fauvrelle, died after being stabbed in the stomach in Thornton Heath on Saturday. Relatives said family had gathered at his hospital bedside where the child was said to be critically ill.

A 29-year-old man remained in custody being questioned on suspicion of murder today.
