June 12, 2024 – All traffic on the M25 in Surrey has come to a standstill due to an HGV fire that broke out around 2:30 PM today between Junction 11 and Junction 12 near Chertsey.
National Highways (@HighwaysEAST) has issued an urgent notice on X (formerly known as Twitter), advising motorists to allow extra time for their journeys and to consider alternative routes due to the severe disruption.
Traffic officers are currently on the scene, assisting Surrey Fire and Rescue Service in controlling the blaze. The fire brigade has raised safety concerns about the vehicle and has emphasized that no traffic should pass the scene.
The incident has resulted in significant delays, with AA reporting 90-minute holdups and traffic queues stretching nine miles.
A video circulating on social media shows the HGV engulfed in bright orange flames, with large plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky, highlighting the severity of the incident.
Authorities are working diligently to manage the situation, but the disruption is expected to last for several hours. Motorists are urged to avoid the area if possible.
