Heroic Man Dies While Rescuing Children from Sea at Ingoldmells Seaside

Selfless Rescue Attempt Ends in Tragedy on Lincolnshire Coast

A 60-year-old man has tragically died after attempting to rescue two children in distress in the sea near Ingoldmells, a popular UK seaside destination near Skegness, on Sunday, May 25.

According to Lincolnshire Police, the man entered the water just after 4pm in an effort to assist the children but encountered difficulties himself. Despite rapid response from HM Coastguard, the RNLI, and the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency Response Unable to Save Heroic Victim

The area near the promenade was the focal point of the incident, with emergency vehicles and air support visible along the beachfront. Authorities have not released the identity of the man or confirmed the condition of the children he tried to save.

A police spokesperson stated:

“A 60-year-old man has sadly died after entering the water to help two children who appeared to be in distress. He got into difficulty and sadly died at the scene.
Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones at this very sad time.”

Community in Mourning

The tragic event has cast a sombre mood over Ingoldmells, a destination known for its family-friendly beaches and coastal attractions. Locals and holidaymakers have praised the man’s bravery, calling for increased water safety awareness along the coastline.

The RNLI and other agencies continue to highlight the dangers of open water, especially when strong currents are present. The beach was not confirmed to have had active lifeguard supervision at the time.

 

Public Appeal and Water Safety Reminder

Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant footage to come forward. As investigations continue, officials are also reminding the public to exercise extreme caution near open water.
