A yellow weather warning is in effect from midnight until 9pm on Thursday, October 23, with heavy rain expected to lash parts of England and Wales. But the wet misery doesn’t stop there: strong winds will kick in from 9am and continue until 11pm the same day.
Storm Alert: Winds Up to 60mph Threaten Travel Chaos
The Met Office warns of “a medium likelihood” of a widespread downpour, turning particularly fierce across southern Britain. Coastal areas will bear the brunt, with gusts potentially hitting 50 to 60 mph along exposed headlands. Inland areas won’t escape entirely, with 40 to 45 mph winds widely forecast.
“In association with the rain, conditions are expected to turn windy with a chance of gales, initially along southern and eastern coasts, but more widely across southern Britain during Thursday daytime,” said the Met Office.
Expect Travel Mayhem and Possible Power Cuts
Prepare for delays and disruption:
- Longer journey times or cancellations on road, rail, air, and ferry services
- Possible damage to buildings, including tiles ripped from roofs
- Risk of power cuts impacting phone coverage and other services
- Danger of flying debris, large waves, and coastal flooding
- Potential closure of roads and bridges due to flooding or wind damage
- Flooding to some homes and businesses is likely
Motorists should take extra care on slippery, flooded roads where accidents could spike.
Stay Weather Aware on October 23
The harsh weather is expected to hit London and much of southern England hard. The Met Office urges everyone to stay informed and take precautions.
