A woman from Greetland has been jailed for over two years after mugging her elderly partner in broad daylight and threatening a passer-by who tried to intervene.
Katie Bland, 31, attacked the man — who is in his 70s — at Halifax Bus Station on 6 January. Prosecutors told the court that Bland demanded money from her partner before kicking him and forcing him to withdraw £40 from a nearby cash machine.
When a member of the public attempted to help, Bland responded aggressively, threatening to “knock her jaw off.”
During the hearing, prosecutor Nathan Davis read out a statement from the victim, in which he described the emotional toll of Bland’s abuse.
“I wake up and don’t know how she is going to be. I get abused daily,” he said. “I lost all of my friends for my relationship. My friends have told me what she is like and that she asks for money to buy drugs.
Her behaviour in the last weeks has become worse. It has affected me to the point I want to give up with life. I never want to come home due to the mess she has left in my house.”
The court heard that Bland’s campaign of intimidation and violence had left the pensioner isolated, fearful, and struggling with his mental health.
Bland admitted robbery, assault, fraud, and blackmail. She was sentenced to two years and three months in prison.
