Grange Hill Actor Stuart Organ Passes Away at 72

Stuart Organ, best known for his portrayal of Peter Robson in the iconic children’s TV drama “Grange Hill,” has passed away at the age of 72. The actor played the role of the firm but fair teacher, who became a beloved character throughout the show’s run.

Organ’s character, Peter Robson, was a PE and geography teacher who eventually rose to the position of headteacher, making him the longest-serving member of staff at the fictional school depicted in “Grange Hill.” The series, which aired from 1978 to 2008, gained fame for its gritty portrayal of social issues affecting young people, addressing topics such as racism, drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, mental illness, and HIV/AIDS.

In addition to his role on “Grange Hill,” Organ appeared in various other television shows and films. He portrayed Kevin Cross in the soap opera “Brookside” and had guest appearances on popular series like “Doctor Who,” alongside Sylvester McCoy. His career also included roles in medical dramas such as “Casualty” and “Holby City,” as well as films like “Those Glory Glory Days” (1990), “Present Spirits” (1994), and “Fork In The Road” (1997).

Organ began his professional acting career at Leeds Playhouse in 1975, starring in Tom Stoppard’s “Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead,” a spin-off of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.” He also showcased his talent on stage as Judge Turpin in Queens Theatre Hornchurch’s production of “Sweeney Todd.
