In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Spice Girls, the British Music Experience (BME) is set to host a dazzling exhibition, “Girl Power! Spice Girls at 30.” Running from February 7 to September 8, 2024, the exhibit promises to take fans on a nostalgic journey through the history of the iconic girl group.
The exhibition, curated by the foremost collector of Spice Girls memorabilia, Liz West, will feature outfits worn by Sporty, Baby, Scary, Ginger, and Posh, capturing the essence of the Spice Girls’ meteoric rise to fame. Liz West’s Guinness World Record-breaking collection includes handcrafted costumes from international designers and pieces specially commissioned by the Spice Girls themselves.
Liz West, whose journey as a super-fan began at the age of 11, expressed her excitement about exhibiting costumes and items never seen in public before. The collection aims to evoke nostalgia and highlight the influence of the Spice Girls, who empowered a generation of girls with their lyrics and performances.
The director of BME, Elizabeth Koravos, emphasised the exhibition’s exploration of the Spice Girls’ impact on the 1990s music scene, breaking free from male-dominated pressures. The showcase is not only a testament to the group’s phenomenal success but also a reminder of the empowerment they brought to a diverse generation of women.
Accompanying the outfits, the exhibition will feature audio-visual elements, including a stage show montage of Spice Girls hits and listening stations. The BME has planned a season of activities, including film screenings, conversations, acoustic music, and a special quiz night, making it a comprehensive celebration for fans and enthusiasts alike.
The launch night on February 7, 2024, promises to be a spectacular event with the museum galleries, Merch Store, and Star Café & Bar open for visitors. Live music from The Spicey Girls, a tribute band dedicated to capturing the spirit and charisma of the original group, will add to the festive atmosphere.
Tickets for the launch night go on sale on January 15, 2024, at 10 am, priced at £10 each. General entry tickets for the exhibition, available at http:///www.britishmusicexperience.com, will be valid for 12 months, offering visitors an extended opportunity to experience the magic of “Girl Power! Spice Girls at 30.”
