Stopped Under Counter-Terror Laws
The couple, returning to Britain from <a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.Moscow via Abu Dhabi, were held under Schedule 3 of the Counter-Terrorism and <a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.Border Security Act 2019. This <a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.Lawlaw allows officers at UK ports to search and detain travellers suspected of hostile activity.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “We can confirm that on Saturday, counter-terrorism officers at <a href=”https:///uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.Gatwick airport stopped a man in his 70s and a woman in her 40s under Schedule 3 of the Counter Terrorism and <a href=”https:///uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.Border Security Act 2019. Neither of them were arrested and they were allowed on their <a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.Wayway.”
WPB Slams ‘Intimidation’ Tactic
The Workers Party of Britain condemned the stop as political intimidation targeting those pushing diplomacy <a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.<a href=”https:///www.uknip.co.Overover conflict.
“There was never any chance of an offence. We were obstructed from providing legal support, and the conduct of the affair has been designed to intimidate political opponents of the drive towards war with Russia and China,” the party said in a statement.
No Charges, Details Remain Unclear
The couple were released without charge later the same day. The WPB insisted no offence had taken place. It remains unknown if police demanded access to phones or passwords during the stop.
