A fire that broke out in a garage in Brentwood yesterday quickly escalated, spreading to nearby vehicles and structures, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed.
Crews from Billericay, Brentwood, Basildon, Wickford, and Corringham Fire Stations were called to the scene near Hunters Chase after flames from the garage extended to three cars, a summer house, a shed, and a fence.

The fire reportedly started while the resident was making wax candles in the garage. According to fire officers, flammable items located nearby ignited, fuelling the rapid spread of the blaze.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but significant damage was sustained to property.
Community Protection by On-Call Firefighters
Many of the firefighters who responded to the incident were on-call firefighters — trained professionals who live or work within five minutes of their local fire station and are paid to respond to emergencies in their communities.
A fire service spokesperson said:
“The quick response of our on-call firefighters helped contain the fire and prevent further spread. Incidents like this show just how vital our on-call team members are.”
Thinking of Joining?
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service is encouraging local residents who live or work near a fire station to consider becoming on-call firefighters.
“If you live or work within five minutes of an on-call station, you could play a crucial role in protecting your community,” the spokesperson added.

An investigation into the exact cause of the fire is ongoing, though accidental ignition due to flammable materials is the suspected cause.
