A known gang member was arrested in Wealdstone on Saturday following a brief foot chase with police, during which a 12-inch combat-style knife was recovered.
The incident unfolded on Wealdstone High Road as officers from the Metropolitan Police were conducting routine patrols. Upon spotting the suspect, who is known to police for gang affiliations, officers initiated a foot pursuit. The chase ended shortly after, with the suspect successfully detained by police.
During the chase, the suspect discarded a large combat-style knife, which was later recovered nearby with the assistance of a police dog unit. The weapon, measuring approximately 12 inches, was seized as evidence.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrest, stating: “On Saturday, officers patrolling Wealdstone High Road successfully apprehended a known gang member. The male was detained following a short foot chase. A 12-inch combat-style knife, discarded by the suspect, was recovered with the help of a police dog. The male was arrested and has been bailed pending further enquiries.”
The arrest comes amid ongoing efforts by Harrow police to combat gang-related violence and knife crime in the borough. Officers emphasized their commitment to public safety and tackling violent crime in the community.
