Former Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Mohammed Miah, 27, has been sentenced to 14 months in prison for sending a woman a letter containing a sexual threat. Miah hand-delivered the letter to the woman’s address while off-duty on April 9, 2022. The letter stated that her life would be ruined if she did not perform a sexual act.
Leicestershire Police swiftly took action in response to the report of the letter. Miah was arrested six days later and initially denied any involvement. He was released while inquiries continued, but he was suspended from duty during the investigation. However, during an interview on December 8, Miah eventually admitted to delivering the letter and misusing force computers to carry out searches on the victim and people known to her.
In response to Miah’s admission, the former PCSO resigned from the force the following month. He pleaded guilty in April at Leicester Magistrates’ Court to sending a threatening letter under the Malicious Communications Act and three counts of misuse of a force computer under the Computer Misuse Act.
Chief Constable Rob Nixon of Leicestershire Police expressed his dismay at Miah’s actions, describing them as “disgraceful.” He emphasized that there is no excuse for such behaviour and that it will not be tolerated within the force. Chief Constable Nixon also stated that after the conclusion of the court case, internal misconduct proceedings will take place.
