A former Metropolitan Police officer, PC Tom Thorpe, has been charged with a series of sexual offences, including attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child. The charges also include attempting to cause a child under 13 to view or look at an image of sexual activity and making indecent photographs/pseudo-photographs of a child.
PC Thorpe served as an officer in the Met’s South Area Basic Command Unit, which encompasses the areas of Bromley, Sutton, and Croydon. The alleged crimes took place during his tenure in the force.
PC Thorpe’s arrest occurred on December 6, 2019, and he was formally charged on February 22, 2021. Following his arrest, he was suspended from duty, and in September 2022, he chose to resign from the police force.
The former officer is scheduled to appear for trial at Kingston Crown Court on Monday, July 17. The charges he faces are grave, reflecting the seriousness with which such offences are regarded by the legal system.
