The Football Association (FA) and the sporting community mourn the loss of Gemma Wiseman, a former player for England and Great Britain’s deaf women’s teams, who tragically passed away at the age of 33. Gemma, known for her remarkable contributions to the sport, will be remembered for her dedication and accomplishments.

Her impressive skills and commitment were also showcased in various international competitions, including the 2015 World Deaf Futsal Championship. Gemma Wiseman’s passion for the game made her a standout player and a source of inspiration.

Baroness Sue Campbell, FA Director of Women’s Football, expressed her condolences, describing Gemma as an “outstanding person and player” who will be deeply missed by the football community. Gemma’s achievements extended beyond the 2016 Championships, as she contributed to the teams that secured third place at the 2013 Deaflympics in Bulgaria and the European Football Championships in 2011, representing Great Britain.

In addition to her remarkable sporting career, Gemma Wiseman worked as a teaching assistant, demonstrating her commitment to both her profession and education. She leaves behind a profound legacy in the sporting world, inspiring future generations of athletes.

The page has already raised over £9,000, with heartfelt tributes pouring in to honour the memory of the “kind and caring” footballer.

The GoFundMe tribute reads, “On 16 December 2023 Gemma sadly took her own life. Her family and friends are devastated. Gemma was a kind and caring person with a great sense of humour. Everywhere she went she brought laughter and energy with her and easily made friends with anyone lucky enough to meet her. Gemma leaves behind her devoted wife, Laura, and three-year-old daughter who are at a complete loss without her.”

An inquest into Gemma Wiseman’s passing has been opened at Norfolk Coroner’s Court, with a further hearing scheduled for July. The football community and supporters continue to remember Gemma Wiseman’s remarkable contributions to the sport and the impact she had on those around her.
