Five Teenage Boys Arrested in Connection with Newark Sexual Attack Investigation

Nottinghamshire Police have taken five teenage boys into custody on suspicion of rape in connection with a reported serious sexual assault that occurred in an alleyway near St Mary’s Memorial Gardens in Newark. The incident, which has shocked the community, took place on Thursday evening at approximately 19:45 GMT.

Upon receiving the report, police promptly responded to the scene and detained the five boys involved. Their ages are listed as 14, 14, 15, 16, and 16. Detective Inspector Stuart Barson, who leads the ongoing investigation, reaffirmed law enforcement’s dedication to providing support for the victim and her family during this deeply distressing time.

“We are fully committed to supporting the victim and her family in every possible way following this distressing incident,” stated DI Barson. Recognizing the potential impact on the broader community, he assured that multiple police teams are working tirelessly to offer assistance to anyone affected by the incident.

In response to the assault, heightened visibility patrols have been deployed in the area since Thursday night. Detective Inspector Barson expressed his hope that the community would find reassurance in the robust law enforcement response.
