Fire Rips Through Bell Farm Avenue Building

A blaze broke out in an electrical intake cupboard on the second floor of a building on Bell Farm Avenue yesterday evening.

Massive Response from London Fire Brigade

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called at 6.20pm on October 11. Fire crews rushed to the scene from Dagenham, Ilford, Romford, and nearby stations. Five fire engines and about 30 firefighters battled the flames.

Residents Evacuated and Hospitalised

Three adults and five children were treated as a precaution and taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service. All residents were forced out of their homes due to power loss.

A rest centre has been set up by Barking and Dagenham Council to support those displaced.

Fire Put Out, Investigation Underway

The LFB had the fire under control by 7.57pm, using breathing apparatus to tackle the flames. Part of a flat on the second floor was damaged. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

LFB Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne said: “We have local officers on-site at the rest centre supporting residents alongside our partners. We will continue to liaise with the community and provide support tonight and over the coming days.”

Barking and Dagenham Council has been contacted for more details on the rest centre.
