First Pictures of Victim Killed in Canterbury Stabbing Named as ‘Kind-Hearted’ 23-Year-Old Samare Gerezgihir

Samare “Sammy” Gerezgihir, also known as Jamil, has been identified as the victim of a fatal stabbing in Canterbury on October 10. The 23-year-old, described by friends as a “kind and lovely” person with a “heart full of gold,” was tragically killed in the town centre, leaving the local community in shock.

Kent Police responded to a call at 11:31 pm and found Mr Gerezgihir with a stab wound. Despite the efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His death has devastated those who knew him, sparking an outpouring of tributes and grief from friends and loved ones.

Friend Josie Rossiter about her heartbreak, saying, “I have known him for around five months and he was truly the best person I met. He was so funny, always laughing, and had a big heart. His heart was full of gold.” She added, “It still feels like a bad dream.

Describing Sammy as “the kindest, loveliest, most selfless person you will ever meet,” Josie said he was “brave and funny” and that she would always cherish their memories together. Fly high my brother, you will be truly missed by so many,” she said in her emotional tribute.

Following the stabbing, four men were arrested, and Kent Police launched a murder investigation. Two men have since been charged: Kemal Ibrahim, 24, from Long Acre Close, Canterbury, and Mohammed Hgar, 31, of no fixed address, face charges of murder and possession of a bladed article in a public place. Ibrahim was additionally charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Both men appeared in Margate Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The other two men arrested in connection with the incident have been released on bail as detectives continue their investigation.

The fatal stabbing has sent shockwaves through the Canterbury community, with the High Street cordoned off following the tragic event. Friends and family continue to pay their respects to a young man they describe as having “a heart too good for this world.

As the investigation progresses, the community remains in mourning for the loss of Samare “Sammy” Gerezgihir, whose kindness and joy left a lasting impact on those who knew him.
