The three-year-old girl who tragically lost her life in a collision involving a van and a tram in Manchester has been named as Louisa “Lulu” Palmisano.

Greater Manchester Police released a heart-wrenching photograph of Lulu today, showing the smiling toddler whose life was cut short during what was meant to be a joyful family visit to the city.

Lulu, from Burley, was in Manchester with her parents when the devastating incident occurred on Saturday. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, Lulu was pronounced dead following the crash.

Police confirmed that a 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in custody as the investigation continues.

In a moving tribute, Lulu’s grieving parents said: “Louisa (Lulu) was the sweetest, kindest, and most generous little girl. She was full of creativity and joy, and she absolutely loved going to nursery every day.”

“Her absence has left a devastating void in our family—she was our only child, our whole world.”

Investigation Underway

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have launched a full investigation into the incident, which took place near the busy tram network in the city centre. Officers are appealing to any witnesses or anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage of the collision to come forward.

Chief Superintendent Emma Taylor, leading the investigation, said: “This is an absolutely heartbreaking incident, and our thoughts remain with Lulu’s family during this incredibly difficult time. We are doing everything we can to support them and to ensure a thorough investigation is carried out.”

“We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam footage from the area at the time to contact us. Every piece of information could be vital in understanding exactly what happened.”

Community in Mourning

News of Lulu’s death has sent shockwaves through both Manchester and her hometown of Burley. Local residents have been leaving flowers and toys near the site of the crash in tribute to the young girl.

Councillor Sarah Thompson, representing the area where the incident occurred, expressed her condolences: “This is an unimaginable tragedy. Our community’s hearts go out to Lulu’s family. We are working with the authorities to ensure that the family receives all the support they need during this awful time.”
