On Monday, 23 January 2023, around 11.35 a.m., police were called to assist the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service after a fire broke out at a business on Rose Street in Edinburgh.
The fire has been extinguished, and there is no longer any danger to the public.
Five firefighters were taken to Edinburgh’s Royal Infirmary for treatment. A police officer was also taken to the same hospital and later released after being treated for smoke inhalation.
According to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), 38-year-old firefighter Barry Martin is still in critical condition at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after suffering serious injuries.
Mr Martin, of Fife, was one of five firefighters injured while fighting the fire on January 23.
Officers remain on the scene, and the east end of Rose Street between South St David Street and Rose Street Lane North is closed. Two nearby businesses on Rose Street are also still closed.
