Fire rips through Bedroom in Southsea

Four fire crews from Portchester, Cosham and Southsea have tackled a fire in a bedroom this evening. Eight fire fighters committed in breathing apparatus used two jets and two hose reels to contain the fire in the four storey building on Nelson Road. Crews were called just after 7.30pm on Tuesday evening. The bedroom was left totally gutted and the remaining rooms were 100% damaged by smoke and water. Fire firefighters also used a fan to remove smoke and ventilate the property. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No one is believed to have been hurt as a result of the incident. A spokesman from Southsea Fire Station said: ‘ When we arrived all occupants were safely out of the property. ‘There were 16 firefighters at the scene; the cause of the fire isn’t currently known but we are not treating the incident as suspicious. ‘Although residents from the first floor and top floor flats were able to return to their properties, the flat affected by the fire is now uninhabitable. ‘We finished up at the scene at around 10pm.’
