Fire crews tackle blaze as smoke seen billowing out of house

Firefighters have been mobilised to tackle a fire in the village of St Helens near Bembridge on the Isle of Wight this evening. Fire crews from Ryde have been called to the fire on Eddington Road. Crews were mobilised just after 8.25pm on Wednesday evening to the incident after holidaymakers at nearby Nobes Point saw the smoke and thought that a property was alight. A road closure has been put in place whilst the fire crews deal with the incident at the detached property. The smoke has been caused by a large bonfire that has been put out by using on hose reel as it was thought that the blaze may have become uncontrollable. Fire crews have now left the property.
