Fire Crews Extinguish Vehicle Blaze at Edinburgh Airport Car Park

Firefighters were called to Edinburgh Airport on Saturday afternoon after a vehicle fire broke out in one of the site’s car parks. The incident, reported around 1.40pm, sent thick plumes of black smoke into the sky, visible from surrounding areas.

Swift Emergency Response Prevents Spread

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed that one appliance was dispatched to the scene, where crews promptly extinguished the blaze. A spokeswoman for the SFRS said:

“We received reports of a vehicle fire at a car park at Edinburgh Airport at around 1.40pm on Saturday, May 17. One appliance was sent to the scene and the fire has now been extinguished.”

Footage shared by eyewitnesses and local outlets such as Fife Jammers shows dense smoke rising high above the airport perimeter.

No Injuries Reported as Investigation Launched

A spokesperson for Edinburgh Airport praised the quick actions of the airport’s on-site emergency team:

“Our fire service swiftly responded to and extinguished a vehicle fire within one of our car parks. An investigation is now taking place to determine the cause.”

No injuries have been reported, and airport operations continued unaffected, though minor delays in the affected parking zone may persist as the investigation continues.

Eyewitnesses and Safety Precautions

Several travelers and local residents took to social media to express shock at the scale of the smoke, although airport officials have reassured the public there was no risk to terminal buildings or passengers.

The incident has renewed calls for ensuring safe vehicle storage and routine checks in public car parks, especially at high-security locations such as airports.

Stay Informed

Passengers flying from Edinburgh Airport are advised to check with airport authorities regarding any temporary access changes to car park areas. Further updates will follow pending the outcome of the fire investigation.
