Fire crews called to fire at Halfords in Eastliegh

Fire crews were called to a commercial garage fire in Woodside Avenue, Eastleigh at three o’clock this morning (31 Jan). Six fire appliances and several support vehicles came from Eastleigh, St Mary’s, Portchester, Hightown and Redbridge fire stations and found smoke and flames issuing on arrival. Two vehicles were involved in the fire, with a further six vehicles and the workshop itself, affected by smoke. Neighbouring units in Channon Retail Park were accessed by crews to clear smoke. Fire crews gained control of the fire and was extinguished using six sets of breathing apparatus, three jets and tactical ventilation for smoke clearance. The crews worked effectively to ensure the safety of acetylene cylinders that were in the premises. It is important you are aware of the dangers of acetylene in your premises as these cylinders present an extreme hazard in the event of a fire.
