Emergency services were called to Selneck Exports on River Road, Barking, this afternoon after a fire broke out inside a large steel container.
The incident was first reported at around 2pm today (Friday, May 2), prompting a four-pump response from the London Fire Brigade (LFB).
Crews arrived quickly at the industrial site to tackle the blaze inside a 40ft x 10ft steel container.

Fire Under Control
Firefighters deployed multiple hoses and breathing apparatus to bring the flames under control.
At this time, no injuries have been reported, and the fire has been largely contained to the steel unit.

A neighbouring business initially raised the alarm after noticing smoke issuing from the container. The Fire Investigation Unit (FIU) attached to the London Fire Brigade has been mobilised to establish the cause of the fire.

A source for London Fire Brigade at the scene said:
“Four fire engines and approximately 25 firefighters responded to a fire inside a 40ft steel container at a commercial site in Barking. Crews worked swiftly to contain the fire and prevent further spread.”
Ongoing Investigations

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
Investigators from the London Fire Brigade’s Fire Investigation Unit are examining the scene to determine how the blaze started.
Access to parts of River Road was temporarily restricted during the incident, but has since reopened.
