Emergency services were called to a residential fire at a flat on Maidstone Road in Rochester on Saturday morning (7 June), prompting a swift response from Kent Fire and Rescue Service.
The blaze was reported at 11:49am, with three fire engines sent to the scene. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used high-pressure hose reel jets to tackle the flames and bring the situation under control by 12:21pm.
Quick Response Prevents Major Damage
The fire was contained within the flat, and crews acted quickly to prevent the flames from spreading further.
One person was assessed by paramedics for slight smoke inhalation, but no serious injuries were reported.
Cause of Fire
Fire investigators believe the incident was accidental, caused when a hob was inadvertently switched on, igniting nearby materials.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service has reminded residents of basic kitchen safety, stating:
“To reduce the risk of fire in your kitchen, be sure to keep oven gloves, tea towels and other flammable items at least 50cm away from the hob.”
