Production has begun on “Murder is Easy,” a highly anticipated adaptation of Agatha Christie’s acclaimed novel. The project is a collaboration between Mammoth Screen, known for their successful productions such as “The Serpent” and “World on Fire,” and Agatha Christie Limited, renowned for their adaptations of Christie’s works like “And Then There Were None” and “Death on the Nile.” The two-part thriller is set to premiere on BBC One and iPlayer in the UK, as well as on BritBox International’s streaming service in the US, Canada, and South Africa.

The gripping story is adapted by Siân Ejiwunmi-Le Berre and expertly directed by Meenu Gaur, known for her exceptional work on “Zinda Bhaag” and “World on Fire.” The production has attracted an outstanding ensemble cast, featuring David Jonsson (“Industry,” “Rye Lane”) as Fitzwilliam and Morfydd Clark (“Lord of the Rings,” “Saint Maud”) as Bridget. Joining them are acclaimed actors Penelope Wilton (“Downton Abbey,” “After Life”), Sinead Matthews (“Hellraisers,” “The Crown”), Tom Riley (“The Nevers,” “Ill Behaviour”), Douglas Henshall (“Shetland,” “In Plain Sight”), and many others.

Set in England in 1954, the story follows Fitzwilliam (David Jonsson) as he encounters Miss Pinkerton (Penelope Wilton) aboard a train to London. Miss Pinkerton reveals to Fitzwilliam that a cunning killer is wreaking havoc in the peaceful English village of Wychwood under Ashe. While the villagers dismiss the deaths as accidents, Miss Pinkerton knows there is more to the story. Tragically, she is later found dead en route to Scotland Yard, compelling Fitzwilliam to embark on a mission to apprehend the killer before they can strike again. In a world where murder seems effortless for some, Fitzwilliam must unravel the secrets that lie beneath the surface.

James Prichard, the executive producer for Agatha Christie Limited, expressed his enthusiasm for the talented cast, stating, “Once again, my great-grandmother’s stories have attracted incredible talent. It is truly exciting to witness this group of actors embark on the retelling of this remarkable story. The concept of evil lurking in a quintessentially English village is a familiar trope, but the true nature of what makes murder easy will be revealed.”

James Gandhi, executive producer for Mammoth Screen, praised Siân Ejiwunmi-Le Berre’s exceptional adaptation, stating, “Murder is Easy delves into the divisions at the heart of post-war English society, and we feel incredibly fortunate that the village of Wychwood will be brought to life by such a dream cast. With Meenu Gaur at the helm of direction and David Jonsson leading the way, this promises to be a thrilling ride.”

Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, expressed confidence in the project, stating, “With an intriguing central mystery and a talented creative team behind the camera, it’s no surprise that this new adaptation of Agatha Christie’s classic whodunit has attracted a lineup of esteemed UK acting talent to bring ‘Murder is Easy’ to the screen. BBC viewers are in for a treat that will keep them guessing until the very end.”

Reemah Sakaan, CEO of BritBox International, highlighted the captivating combination of a stellar cast and unparalleled source material, emphasizing that “Murder is Easy” is poised to captivate international audiences. She expressed delight in partnering again with Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited, following their successful collaboration on “Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?” Sakaan emphasized the high-quality production team involved in the project.

Filming for “Murder is Easy” is currently underway in Scotland. The series is set to captivate audiences with its intriguing storyline when it airs on BBC One and iPlayer in the UK, as well as on BritBox International’s streaming service in the US, Canada, and South Africa.
