Fatal Road Traffic Collision in Newton-le-Willows: Investigation Underway

Merseyside Police are currently investigating a tragic road traffic collision that occurred last night, Monday, June 10. The incident took place on Southworth Road, near the junction of Mere Road, when a white Ford Kuga left the road and collided with a tree.

At approximately 10.30pm emergency services responded to reports of the collision. Tragically, a 35-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been notified and are receiving support from specially trained officers. Additionally, a second man in his 30s sustained injuries, although it is believed that no other vehicles were involved.

A 35-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit due to drink or drugs. He is currently in custody.

Road closures are in effect in the area as accident investigation work continues. Motorists are advised to avoid the affected area during this time.

Detective Sergeant Andy Roper, from the Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit, expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. He emphasised that inquiries are still in the early stages, urging any motorists who were driving in the vicinity of Southworth Road and may have captured relevant footage on their dash cams to come forward.
