In a significant operation today, the Metropolitan Police deployed facial recognition technology in East Croydon, supported by officers from the local Croydon police unit. Within the first 20 minutes, the system identified three individuals wanted for various offences or outstanding warrants, leading to swift police intervention.

Later in the day, the facial recognition system flagged another individual. As Metropolitan Police officers approached, the man attempted to flee the scene. A foot chase ensued, with officers from the British Transport Police (BTP) Operational Support Unit, who were conducting a separate operation at East Croydon station, joining the pursuit. The suspect was detained and arrested shortly thereafter.

In a separate incident at East Croydon station, BTP officers arrested a teenager found in possession of a knife on platform 5. This arrest marked the second in under an hour, highlighting the effectiveness of the coordinated efforts between the Metropolitan Police and BTP in tackling crime in the area.
The use of advanced facial recognition technology and increased law enforcement presence has led to a number of successful interventions, reinforcing the commitment to improving public safety and reducing knife crime in London.
