A former Sussex Police officer, PC Christopher Mallet, is set to face court after being charged with two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. The allegations date back to May 2019 when Mallet, 40, was off-duty and reportedly assaulted a woman he met through a dating app.
Mallet, who was a police constable based in Horsham, is scheduled to appear at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on 26 November.
The investigation into the allegations began in May 2019 after Sussex Police filed a mandatory conduct referral. Following a thorough probe, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) concluded its investigation in March 2021, submitting a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). The CPS subsequently authorised the charges against the former officer.
Sussex Police have yet to comment on the case, and Mallet is no longer employed by the force.
