In a successful coordinated police operation, Graham Gomm, an escaped prisoner, has been apprehended and returned to custody.
Police officers from across the Metropolitan Police Service collaborated closely with HM Prison Service after being alerted to Gomm’s escape from HMP Wormwood Scrubs on July 18. Gomm managed to escape custody while receiving treatment at Hammersmith Hospital.
A proactive operation led to Gomm’s arrest in Putney at approximately 08:30hrs on July 20. He has since been returned to prison.
The incident has prompted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Gomm’s escape from lawful custody. Details on how he managed to elude security measures at the hospital are being closely examined.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said, “We are relieved to have apprehended Graham Gomm and returned him to custody. This operation underscores the importance of coordinated efforts between law enforcement agencies to ensure public safety.
The HM Prison Service also expressed their gratitude for the swift action taken by the police. “The safety and security of our facilities and the public are of utmost importance. We will continue to work with our partners to understand how this incident occurred and to prevent similar incidents in the future,” a representative stated.
